Arbor Day
Gunter's Mayor, Karen Souther, has issued a proclamation designating Sunday, November 12, 2023, Arbor Day in Gunter and urges citizens to support efforts to protect trees and woodlands for this generation and those coming up after us.
The Nebraska Board of Agriculture created Arbor Day in 1872 to raise awareness about protecting our trees and woodlands. Trees beautify our community and are a source of joy and spiritual renewal. They also have economic value, increasing property values, enhancing the economic viability of business areas, and providing a source of renewable resources such as paper, building materials, and fuel for our winter fires. In addition, trees reduce erosion, decrease heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide wildlife with a place to live.
